About the Artist
Mary Anne Brooks
Description of work:Acrylic painting and Raw Photography. Other than cropping, I do not alter my photos. I shoot locally in Missouri and Illinois parks, lakes and rivers. I am captivated by scenic vistas, reflections on water and cloud formations. Included in my work are unique shots of wildlife and macro florals. I often transfer my photos to ready-to-display stretched canvas. Additionally, many of my acrylic paintings are inspired by my photographs. If you look closely, most paintings include a bit of wildlife: perhaps a little bird, a snake, or a turtle. Keep looking!
Painting:I began painting with oils in high school and college, mainly portraits and people, but now prefer to paint landscapes, birds with acrylics, and currently exploring mixed media and plein aire watercolor. I have enjoyed participating in a variety of painting and drawing workshops at SLCC Meramec Campus and The Green Door Gallery in Webster Groves. As a selling artist, I am always looking to improve technique, composition and knowledge. My work has been accepted into juried competitions and is currently exhibited in public and private collections. Received an Honorable Mention for mixed media composition, Moroccan Marketplace, August 2024Photography:Photography has been a passion since childhood, always camera in hand. As an adult, striving to capture “perfect” compositions is a continuing quest. I have taken an extended series of intermediate and advanced photography courses at STLCC Meramec.
